Wedding Etiquette for the Parents of the Bride and Groom

Two words: In-laws; for both the bride and groom. As you plan to tie the knot and share your entire lives with one another, keep in mind that your families will be intertwining, which means you both will be having a new set of parents (sometimes two new sets)!  InsideWeddings gave great advice on how to approach and include your parents and new in-laws up to big day! Reaching each other: Woohoo! You’ve announced your engagement to your families and friends, but now what?  Traditionally, the groom’s mother would call the bride’s family to arrange a get together and celebrate.  Nowadays, your announcement is much more important that who does what; you’re getting married!  So it could be the groom’s family, the bride’s family, or as a couple you and your groom can invite both side’s of the family to a gathering where everyone can meet, congratulate, and welcome you and yours to the family!

Money Matters:  Financials are always a very personal and sensitive subject, so proceed with caution. Traditionally the bride’s parents paid for  majority if not all of the day of wedding day arrangements and the décor as well as the engagement party.  Traditionally the groom’s parent’s paid for everything that leads to the wedding day with a few additional décor costs "(the rehearsal dinner, the bride’s engagement and wedding rings, the marriage license, and officiant fee, and the flowers)."

Today, wedding expenses and finances are divided up in any way that best fits everyone’s budget. It important though to give everyone notice prior to discussing the finances of your wedding. As the bride, who wants only the best for your big day, keep in mind that they are supporting you and you may need to compromise with some of their wishes.  Never expect someone to financially support your big day, be grateful for those who can and those who can't, either way you will be with the ones you love.

Lines of Communication: After your parents meet your future in-laws, encourage them to communicate directly with one another! This will make planning and coordinating with both sides of the family much more simple and fewer questions for you to answer!

Proper Attire: Your mom and mother in law will of course want to look fabulous on your big day. Traditionally the mother of the groom will ask the mother of the bride what she plans to wear, giving her the option to choose first. Regardless, your mothers should wear their personal preferences; but colors and styles that complement one another, and the wedding colors are always a plus!

Roles on the Big Day: On the day of the wedding, your parent's and the groom's parents should act as hosts throughout the day. They should all be included within the procession at the ceremony and greet guests at the reception. Your parents and in laws should also prepare to give a toast as well (usually father of the groom at the rehearsal dinner and father of the bride at the reception).  This will be a very happy day for them as well, so be sure they enjoy, have some bubbly, and celebrate with all the guests.

In Honor of Alyssa Acuna and and Ben Stone

It was so fun to work with my NYC couple, Alyssa and Ben!  Ben has the most adorable English accent by the way.  Alyssa, Ben and I did their consultation via Skype which was a first for me!  I only got to see them twice before the wedding, but when I first met Alyssa in person I felt like we were already best friends!  All of the vendors were awesome which is no wonder why their wedding will be feature on Grace Ormonde's blog this year!

It was so great to finally work at the beautiful Rancho Las Lomas. I was also lucky enough to work with some of my favorite vendors like photographer Scott Nelson and the always amazing caterers, 24 Carrots. Enjoy some of my favorite pictures from the special day below!

In Honor of Brooke Davis & Josh Wimberly

I had such a great time being a part of Brooke and Josh's wedding.  They both live in Arizona, so I actually planned most of the wedding with Brooke's mom, Ginny.  Every part of this wedding was a blast!  I loved every single vendor, and in case you didn't know I used to work at Franciscan Gardens, so it was nice to be back!  Enjoy some of our favorite pictures below by Chris!

In Honor of Neha Soneji and Harin Contractor

I was so excited to book my first Chicago bride Neha!...and over the telephone!  So you can imagine my anticipation the first time I finally got to meet her, Harin, and her parents for our timeline meeting.  We of course had even more fun than I imagined talking about snowboarding, and other sports they enjoy.  Neha and Harin are truly some of the most genuine people I have worked with and I feel so special to have been part of their day.  I must say, I am starting to become quite attached to Indian weddings!  All of the bright colors and energy makes "work" even more fun!  I hope you enjoy some of their pictures below....they are absolutely stunning!

In Honor of Karen Morse & David Sanford

So excited to post this Christmas wedding from last December...lets me relive the holidays a little bit.  Now here's a story for you!  Karen taught my sister in middle school and was also her dance team coach!  David, had her in his P.E. class and is ALSO the cross country coach at the high school I went to.  Talk about a small world!  This wedding was so fun to plan since I felt like I already knew them, and I also had the pleasure of working with such awesome vendors!  Check out some of the pictures below by our Angelina Jolie look alike photographer, Chloe Atnip.

In Honor of Lauren Rosen & Scott Moffat

I was so excited when Lauren contacted me about coordinating her wedding at The Fairmont in Newport Beach.  She and I went to high school together!  It's funny because people would sometimes tell us we look alike...it must be the long brown hair....and I'll take that comparison any day!  Such a gorgeous girl with a million dollar smile!
Lauren and Scott met at Northwester University and had to incorporate the purple and white school colors into their wedding...oh, and Northwester won their football game the day of the wedding...what a priceless present.  It was such a fun wedding to be apart of...it's always such a pleasure to see people you are friends tie the knot, it makes it that much more special.  Not to mention I ran into several old friends from high school!!
I was also fortunate to work with awesome vendors that made my job so easy.  Check out some images below snapped by Leslie Cunningham from Click Chicks Photography. :)

In Honor of Kimberly White & George Edelman

Kim and George are the coolest most laid back people ever!  I was really excited and flattered that Danny from Epic Imagery referred them to me.  I knew Kim, George and I were going to be a perfect fit at our first meeting when I showed up and George had a Lakers hat on, and they had the cutest dog ever, Spock (yes, from Star Trek!) tied to the patio table outside of the cute little cafe in Santa Monica.

This wedding from this past April took place at the gorgeous La Quinta Resort and Spa...it's honestly like a vacation to work there!  The weather was absolutely amazing.  All of Kim's vintage glassware used to hold candles on the guest tables were awesome, and the mini cupcakes were some of the best I've ever had!!  Not to mention, every time I see Kim's old Hollywood glamour look, I can't help but fall in love with her more!

Check out some of my favorite pictures below....I promise it will either convince you to get married here, or plan a vacation very soon.  Perhaps you can use Coachella as an excuse to stay at the resort!

In Honor of Kathryn Green and Tim Tawakol

I can't even begin to describe how much fun it was to be a part of Kathryn and Tim's wedding...for several reasons.  First, Kathryn, Tim and I all went to Loyola Marymount University together. Second, Kathryn and I were roommates sophomore year and Tim was our neighbor.  Third, it was the cliche sorority (Alpha Phi) and fraternity (Sigma Chi) love story.  And lastly, I love to selfishly take credit for bringing them together at a Sigma Chi date party.  So throw that all together with Kathryn's handmade decor (with the help of her sisters and mom) paired with a team of fabulous vendors, it was a recipe for an amazingly fun, flawless wedding!  Plus, I had a great time running into old friends from college and do a little bit of catching up.

In Honor of Jessica Lindsey & Logan Mulvey

Ok, where do I even begin?  Now that my blog is up, I have the opportunity to share our weddings with a personal insight to the big day, but I have to admit I have been dreading blogging the gorgeous nuptials of Jessica and Logan.  Dreading it because there is no way I will even come close to doing justice for how beautiful the ceremony was, how much fun the reception was, and how close Jessica and I became during the planning.  To the point, my good friend Courtnay (an LMU alum) referred Jessica (another LMU alum) when she got engaged to Logan (yes another LMU alum).  Jessica and I got along so well, she literally booked me over the phone and the rest is history.  I've never met such an amazing girl, equally gorgeous inside and out, smart, motivated...all the things parents want in a daughter, and all the things a guy wants in a wife...lucky Logan!

Anyways, another aspect of dreading this post is trying to narrow it down to the best images...they are ALL amazing...unedited...I hate them for that, but luckily Aimee (Troy Grover Photography) already blogged it so I just stole some of their ideas.  We had the dream team of vendors to work with, which really made our job so easy, and gave us plenty of time to eat mini donuts.  So please check out the pictures below and leave your comments.  You can also see Aimee and Troy's post here.

And the last reason I was dreading this post...is I don't want it to be over!  Now I don't have anymore excuses to obsess over how much I love them!!
